Extra Curricula Activities 2019-20
Our mission is to deliver a broad, balanced and challenging education that enables all learners to succeed. In addition to the in-school daily programme we offer an Extra Curricula Activities (ECA) programme. The sessions are usually 8 weeks in duration, running from Sunday to Thursday 2:40pm - 3:30pm. There will be 3 ASA sessions each year. Sign-up is online – parents will receive instructions.
Term 1 ASA – 29th Sept – 21st Nov
Term 2 ASA – 19th Jan – 12th Mar
Term 3 ASA – tbc (subject to Ramadan)
The school encourages a range of activities including arts, life skills, languages, sports (including inter-school competitions), technology, academic and indoor pursuits.
While we believe that after-school activities are valuable and are encouraged, please consider the appropriateness for the age of your child, and the other demands on your child's time such as commuting, home learning and mother tongue classes when opting for such activities. To ensure balance in their lives, KG2 – Grade 1 children can only sign-up for one activity at a time. There are no ECA buses, students are to be collected at 3:30pm.
Students in Grades 2-5 can join the School Choir, which meets weekly. Students joining the Choir need to show commitment to attend all rehearsals and are required to sign a contract at the start of the school year. The choir performs at local events and in Dubai competitions.
The school is a member of the Emirates International Schools Sports Association (EISSA), promoting team sports and athletic events.
Competitive sports include athletics, basketball, cross country, football, netball and swimming. For boys and girls.
Announcements for try-outs, training and game dates will be made by the PE department.
As a representative of RAK Academy, students are bound by a code of conduct in order to be selected for a team.
Many of the competitions are held in Sharjah. The school will provide transport to and from school. It is parent’s responsibility to arrange pick-up from school upon return, which is usually 6 and 7pm.
We have a house point system in school to promote a culture of belonging to a community, encourage motivation, participation and healthy competition so that students can celebrate their achievements and be proud of RAK Academy.
The house system provides members with enjoyable and competitive events and activities. Students are rewarded with house points for their efforts. There are weekly updates for all students and the respective winning house gets to hold the trophy for the week.
The house system operates together with the ECA programme and pastoral care provision to provide opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, experiences and learner profile attributes required to become global citizens, respectful and open minded.
The four houses represent the UAE flag colours and local animals. They are:
